Stand Guard Calgary :: Windows Operating Systems Make News Again
Now is one of those times when I am glad I switched to Mac and run Linux on my laptops. When I hear about virus concerns surfacing on the Internet, that target the Windows users, I don’t worry about the computers that I use. I do have to worry about the other PC’s in our office that still run Windows. That’s when I turn to BulletProof InfoTech.
What the Heck is a Conficker.C Anyways?
It’s the newest threat that is infiltrating Windows operating systems around the World. My colleagues at Bulletproof InfoTech have been sharing their findings with the media, and it caught my attention. The Conficker.C worm is out there in the wild and set to launch on April 1, 2009. Now, this worm maybe a hoax and may not be, I know the guys at Bulletproof are not taking any chances with this one. They are committed to ensuring that their client continue to maintain a stable networking environment. There are a lot of resources being put into this one… I hope it turns out to be another “Year 2000” scenario… a lot of planning, prep and at the end of the day – no event. I hope.
The Sky is Falling on April 1, 2009 – Get Ready
There is a tremendous amount of speculation around the Conficker.C worm today, no one really knows what is going to happen. What I can recommend to you is to ensure that your computers are up to date with all the Windows patches. Make sure that you have up to date security software which includes antivirus and anti-spyware scanning. If you are running a home network, make sure that you have a good firewall. Sharing should be turned off on those systems that do not need to share files. Residential routers that are more than a few years old will likely need a ‘firmware’ update or for the sake of a hundred bucks you may consider buying a new one. These little boxes that connect us to the internet run little embedded operating system that need to be maintained too. The fact is that a lot of this is way above the propeller of most home owners and small business owners. You should consider consulting a professional IT service provider like Bulletproof.
