Once upon a time, business web design was something that graphic designers did on the side. Then, it turned into a bigger, more specialized business that went hand-in-hand with Internet marketing. Now, in 2014, Calgary business web design is so ubiquitous that there are dozens of firms, software packages, and even free templates you can use to put a website on the Internet.
Does that mean Calgary web design has become a commodity? Should you just look for the lowest price and fastest solution?
It’s easy to understand why a lot of business owners feel that way. But, for those of us inside the industry, it’s also very easy to see why that viewpoint is wrong. Here are a few of the reasons that the quality of your website matters more than the price, or the number of hours it takes you to launch:
It’s about impressions and credibility. In today’s digital world, having a website that’s “generic” is essentially the same as having one that’s “just plain bad.” If you don’t stand out, then there isn’t any reason for a customer to notice you, much less return again in the future.
Most functionality works behind the scenes. The most important things that a business website can actually do, like sell products or collect leads, are usually handled through coding, programming, and plug-ins. These kinds of functionality might not be compatible with a cheap website or template.
You want your business website to have room to grow. Your website isn’t finished the moment it goes online. Ideally, you’ll want to keep adding content and features later as your business grows. Again, though, you need the right kind of website for that to be a possibility.
There are some companies who would like you to believe that a business website isn’t something you need to invest in, if only because they want to sell hundreds or thousands of copies of the same site again and again. But, unless you want your company to seem like every other business online, remember that web design isn’t a commodity… and that it can have a huge outcome on the future of your business.
