Cool Tech Tool of the Month: Dmail & Pointofmail.com - eKzact Solutions - Calgary Web Design

There’s been a lot of talk around the internet these days regarding Dmail, a new email tech tool that appeared this summer. This is because it takes a seemingly unusual approach to privacy. It turns out, however, that Dmail’s selling point is not so new in the world of email.

What Does Dmail Do?

Dmail is an extension for Google Chrome that allows a Gmail user to revoke an email that has already been sent. In other words, if you send an email that is embarrassing, full of errors, or shouldn’t be seen by the user you accidentally sent it to, Dmail allows you to destroy the email at your will or after a scheduled period of time. It can even be set to do this if the recipient attempts to forward your message.

Sound Familiar?

Similar ideas have been around for some time in many other forms. Gmail’s Undo Send or Outlook’s message recall are both good examples, but there are key differences between these and Dmail. Undo Send works by holding your message in limbo for up to 30 seconds, allowing you to cancel before it’s sent off for good, and Outlook’s message recall requires that the sender and recipient be working on the same Exchange server. Dmail, on the other hand, works by remotely encrypting a sent message. It does not actually remove or delete the message from the recipient’s inbox.

Dmail vs. Pointofmail

While Dmail does have a slight edge on the competition, one tool that quite possibly upstages them all is Pointofmail. This paid service has actually been around for years and gives the user an unparalleled degree of control over email security. It allows the sender to track when an email is read or forwarded, when any contained links are clicked, and when attachments are opened. Pointofmail even offers detailed analytics on all correspondence.

All of these are offered in addition to message recall, destruct, prevention of printing, saving and forwarding, and other features. If your business involves the handling of sensitive information and security is your primary concern, Pointofmail may be best option for you!
