If it’s been a few years (or more) since you last got a new website, the changes that have occurred in the industry might seem dramatic. A lot of the same tools and techniques are still being used, of course, but the reasoning and planning that go into creating a website are significantly different.
It would probably take dozens of blog posts to outline all the different ways that Calgary web design is evolving, but here are four of the most impactful differences that have come about in the past few years:
Responsive and mobile-friendly designs are more important than ever. With more and more of the world now accessing the web through smartphones and tablets (some estimates say more than 50% of all Internet users are mobile), a new website can’t just look great on a computer screen – it has to adapt well to smaller screens, too.
Great designs are coming together with back-end power. Custom programming, new apps, and powerful widgets are all changing the way we think about website capabilities. Sites can store information, respond automatically to customers, and perform lots of other tasks, assuming you have the right tools installed.
Business websites are doing more jobs than ever before. This is related to the previous point, but business sites no longer just give out contact and product information. They are now expected to answer questions, provide forums for discussion, handle customer service tasks, and even start the sales process with new customers.
The launch of a new site is now just a starting point. In the old days, we could put a site online and wait to see what happens. Now, things like search engine optimization and social media are part of a bigger, ongoing Internet marketing strategy that should grow over time.
